After Appointment
Once the PSO is appointed, ensure the following actions are taken:
- Notify the Diocesan Safeguarding Team by emailing: safeguarding@chichester.anglican.org.
- Introduce them to your parish dashboard and contact the diocesan team if Owner access is required.
- Ensure they complete all mandatory safeguarding training. [Click here for training requirements].
- Confirm they have the appropriate DBS check level in line with eligibility criteria. [Click here for DBS guidance].
- If they will manage DBS checks, they must register as the Lead Recruiter for the parish (contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Team for more information)
- Provide access to all relevant safeguarding records, including past concerns, training logs, and DBS documentation.
- Update public safeguarding information in the parish (e.g., noticeboards, website).
- Set up a dedicated safeguarding email address (not personal) for the PSO, accessible by them and one other church leader for transparency and continuity.
- Display the Parish Safeguarding Policy notice prominently in the church.
- Refresh your Promoting a Safer Church poster.
- Formally introduce and commission the new PSO within the parish community.
- Ensure they receive ongoing support in their role. Regular meetings with the Incumbent are essential to discuss concerns, and the PCC should actively support their work.
