After Appointment

Once the PSO is appointed, ensure the following actions are taken:

  • Notify the Diocesan Safeguarding Team by emailing: safeguarding@chichester.anglican.org.
  • Introduce them to your parish dashboard and contact the diocesan team if Owner access is required.
  • Ensure they complete all mandatory safeguarding training. [Click here for training requirements].
  • Confirm they have the appropriate DBS check level in line with eligibility criteria. [Click here for DBS guidance].
  • If they will manage DBS checks, they must register as the Lead Recruiter for the parish (contact the Diocesan Safeguarding Team for more information)
  • Provide access to all relevant safeguarding records, including past concerns, training logs, and DBS documentation.
  • Update public safeguarding information in the parish (e.g., noticeboards, website).
  • Set up a dedicated safeguarding email address (not personal) for the PSO, accessible by them and one other church leader for transparency and continuity.
  • Display the Parish Safeguarding Policy notice prominently in the church.
  • Refresh your Promoting a Safer Church poster.
  • Formally introduce and commission the new PSO within the parish community.
  • Ensure they receive ongoing support in their role. Regular meetings with the Incumbent are essential to discuss concerns, and the PCC should actively support their work.
